McLaren announces new “Sports Series” range of entry level supercars

McLaren has announced the new ‘Sports Series’ range, a new entry-level series from the British supercar maker targeted to compete with the Porsche 911. The first “Sports Series”, will be based from the P13 supercar and will consist of a few variants, including a coupe and a spider. The new car will sit below the 650S and will “bring pure McLaren values to the sports car class.”

The new Sports Series McLarens will share the same 3.8-litre V8 engine with the 650S and P1 and is based from the modified version of the 650S’ carbon fibre composite chassis. The car is expected to run 0-100km/h in 4 seconds, a second slower than the 650S, with estimated top speed of 296km/h.

Meanwhile, McLaren revealed a teaser (pictured above) of the first Sports Series car, as part of a new launch campaign, dubbed “Black Swan Moments“. The 911 fighter is scheduled to launch in 2015 and set to become McLaren’s volume seller.
