Nurburgring sold to Russian billionaire

The famous Nürburgring track has reportedly been sold to a Russian billionaire, Viktor Kharitonin, according to German business weekly Wirtschafts Woche.

A few months ago, we reported that Capricorn Group and Getspeed acquired the Nürburgring for 77 million euro. However, it seems like it didn’t last too long as senior partner Capricorn, which has two-thirds in the deal, was facing major financial issues and had no other choice but to sell the ‘Ring because it wasn’t able to make the necessary payments, even though Getspeed did make the first €5 million payment.

Wirtschafts Woche also mentions that Viktor Kharitonin has already made the second and third payment installments for the ‘Ring, although the latter is not due until December. “This is a positive signal for operators, customers and employees,” confirmed Pietro Nuvoloni, a spokesman for the insolvency administrator. He added that a company called NR Holding AG, involving “the Russian businessman Viktor Charitonin”, has indeed taken over Capricorn’s two thirds sharehold, and therefore the whole Nurburgring.

However, it’s unclear at this moment what the new owner is planning to do with the famous circuit, perhaps he will rebuild the ‘Ring and make it a private race track. We just hope it doesn’t suffer the same fate as our Batu Tiga Circuit. We’ll keep you posted!
