The most dynamically capable, performance-focused sports car that Jaguar has ever produced called the F-Type Coupe made a roaring entrance at Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia’s dual-brand showroom in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Available in two variants; F-Type R and F-Type S, the range-topping F-Type R Coupé is powered by Jaguar’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine that is capable of punching out 550 ponies and 680Nm or torque.  This enables the F-Type R to accelerate from 0 of 100 km/h in 4.2-seconds whilst reaching an electronically limited top speed of 300 km/h. This gorgeous range topping wild cat is priced at RM1,158,888 in Peninsular Malaysia (on the road, excluding insurance).

Meanwhile, the entry level F-Type S Coupé is powered by Jaguar’s 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine with a maximum power output of 380hp and torque of 460Nm. The F-Type S takes only 4.9 seconds to complete the 0 – 100 km/h sprint and can reach a top speed of 275 km/h. It retails at RM899,888 in Peninsular Malaysia (on the road, excluding insurance).

Both the F-Type R and F-Type S feature Jaguar’s 8-speed close-ratio Quickshift transmission which is optimised for sporting performance, with full manual sequential control from the central SportShift selector or steering wheel-mounted paddles.

Based on the stunning Jaguar C-X16 concept sports coupé that debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Jaguar F-Type Coupé’s body side is made from a single piece aluminium pressing, resulting in a lightweight yet extremely strong bodyshell. It is probably the most extreme cold-formed aluminium body side in the automotive industry, eliminating the requirement for multiple panels and cosmetic joints.

A deployable rear spoiler sits within the tapered shut-line of the F-Type Coupé, while slim, wrap-around LED lamps flank a beautifully engineered tailgate, with optional powered open/close functionality.

To deliver assured, progressive handling in line with its 550hp output, the range-topping F-Type R Coupé features a bespoke suspension set-up and new dynamic technologies. These include a second-generation Electronic Active Differential (EAD) and Torque Vectoring. These systems working in parallel to provide immediacy of response and exploitable handling. The EAD system automatically redistributes engine torque between the rear wheels to ensure excellent on-the-limit control, while Torque Vectoring intelligently applies precisely metered braking force to the inner wheels as necessary during cornering to enhance agility. Sports suspension with Adaptive Dynamics damping and Configurable Dynamic Mode further enhance the F-Type R’s immediacy of response, providing an exhilarating and involving driving experience.

At the launch of the new Jaguar F-Type Coupé, the British marque also officially presented the 3 Jaguar `Brand Friends’ for Malaysia as part of its ‘How Alive Are You?’ global brand campaign.

Revolving around the seductive and emotional appeal of Jaguar cars, the ‘How Alive Are You?’ campaign speaks of Jaguar’s confidence and its progressive spirit. Most of all, it is a demonstration of how each Jaguar car is built to be truly ‘alive’ in every aspect.

Art gallerist and collector Lim Wei-ling (bellow middle), visionary entrepreneur Dato’ Steve Day (below, right) and singer-songwriter Yuna (unable to attend) were chosen as they symbolise the three key attributes — design, innovation and performance – highlighted in the campaign. All three inspirational personalities are dedicated to perfecting their unique talents, redefining what it means to be truly ‘alive’.
