According to the laws of physics, size is important because mass, coupled with acceleration, determines the force of a crash so normally, the occupants of the smaller or lighter cars are at greater risk of injury compared to larger, heavier cars. Large vehicles have longer hoods and bigger crush / crumple zones, which gives them an advantage in frontal crashes.

Recently, the cute and compact Mitsubishi Mirage was awarded with highest score in the Adult Occupancy Protection in the mini car category from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS).

The ASEAN NCAP crash test procedure is conducted through a frontal crash test. The test vehicle impacts the aluminium barrier at 64km/h with sensors on the vehicle and passenger dummies registering the impact forces. The result is then benchmarked against NCAP safety standards.

Mitsubishi Mirage received the best safety score in Adult Occupancy Protection in Mini Car category, scoring 13.07 out of 16.00 (4-star rating). The rating is also applicable to the Mitsubishi Attrage GLS or equivalent variant with similar safety specifications. This award is a testament to the high safety standards of the Mitsubishi Eco Cars in Thailand and its export markets. And it also proves that the safety of small cars not necessarily influenced by its size, but also its design.
