The new Mazda 2 is now open for bookings in Mazda showrooms in Malaysia. The Thailand-built B-segment car is set to arrive in Malaysia by early 2015, and we have a glimpse on what’s inside the Malaysia spec of the Mazda 2.

What we know is the new Mazda 2 will be powered by a 1.5-litre Skyactv unit, producing a respectable 114bhp with 148Nm of torque, and mated with a 6-speed automatic (no manual again). The Mazda 2 is set to be an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV), the second Mazda car to do so after the Mazda 3.

A 16-inch tyre will replace the 15-inches from the predecessor and retains the usual front McPherson Strut with rear torsion beam suspension setup.

The Malaysia spec Mazda 2 also gets tons of goodies, ranging from Daytime running lights (DRL), 7-inch LCD Touchscreen, reverse camera, paddle shifters, leather seats and keyless start. The Mazda 2 also gets the I-stop system just like its Mazda 3 sibling.

Active safety is impressive as traction control and electronic stability control are included. Sadly, the passive safety is disappointing as only two front airbags were offered.

What’s interesting that there will be a sedan version of the Mazda 2 released by next year together with the hatchback although Mazda has not yet revealed the sedan version as for now.

Price for the sedan is stated at RM85,000++ while the hatchback is priced at RM87,000, both without insurance, hence suffice it to say it’s below the RM90K figure for both cars. Pricing and specs wise are still tentative at this moment.
