It used to be the Germans who created the most-powerful saloon on this planet. Now it has been taken over by the Americans, thanks to the mad boffins of SRT (Street & Racing Technology) of the Chrysler Group who just created a monster that has four doors! Meet the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, the world’s most-powerful production 707bhp (yes, no typo!) saloon after its unveiling at a special Chrysler event in the United States.

Under the bonnet is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that produces a maniacal 707bhp with 881Nm of torque, which is close to hypercar level! The Hemi tuned powerplant is mated with an eight-speed automatic and is rear-wheel driven. Dodge claims it can do 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds and top out at 326km/h, which is unheard of from a 4-door saloon. Fuel economy is probably the Hellcat’s least priority as the car is capable of draining all its fuel in just 13 minutes at full throttle.

“This is a car most brands would never bring to market,” said Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis. “This is a car that you absolutely cannot build a business case for. But sometimes, you need to stop listening to the focus groups. Sometimes you need to build a car that defines itself.”

Hell-on-wheels with the practicality of a typical family car, how can we say no to this?
