Jaguar unveils reborn lightweight E-Types for Pebble Beach [+Video]

There’s some unfinished business with Jaguar’s lightweight E-Types as we published here previously, and now they are at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours to finish the job. With that, Jaguar has revealed the first of the six reborn Lightweight E-types, with each unit priced at an estimated £1 million. It is simply sexiness redefined in liquid metal goodness.

The Lightweight E-type shares the same powertrain that powered the D-type to Le Mans victory in 1957. It uses an aluminium-block 3.8-litre straight six engine, capable of producing 335bhp and 380Nm of torque, mated together with a 4-speed manual gearbox. Being a lightweight version of the iconic E-Type means it saves 114kg over the standard E-type, with modern techniques used while building this car.

As a racing car,the Lightweight E-type’s suspension is fully independent with twin-wishbone suspension at the front and an independent wide-based wishbone set-up at the back. Other things in this car include an aluminium hard-top, 15-inch wheels and rack and pinion steering.

The job was completed by Jaguar Heritage at their new facility at Browns Lane, part of Jaguar Land Rover’s newly formed Special Operations division. The “car zero” as shown here will be put on display in California before the six models built. Needless to say, expect the six bespoke units to be snapped up instantly.
