New Aston Martin DB9 replacement to arrive in 2016

The Aston Martin DB9 is now a decade old and needs urgent replacement in order to compete with competitors. Now, the Gaydon based firm has hinted the successor for the DB9 is coming soon.

To start, the current DB9’s successor will have the all-new bonded aluminium platform. Aston Martin has hinted that the shape of the new car would be more than an evolution of the current model, with subtle changes to the design that wouldn’t be far off from an Aston.

As part of a new alliance with Mercedes-AMG, the Germans will supply new powertrains to Aston – starting with twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine, with expected tweaks from Aston to make the engine sound like a proper ‘Aston’. The engine will be mated with Mercedes’ all-new nine-speed automatic gearbox.

However, there is a problem as the executives were divided whether to name this car as DB10 or DB8. The DB9 was DB7’s replacement and the ‘8’ was omitted to emphasise the big changes on the DB9. Also, they did not discard on retaining the DB9 moniker.

Until the name is sorted out, look forward to a German powered Grand Tourer from Gaydon in 2016.
