Achtung! AutoBahn to impose charges for foreign drivers!

Autobahn2

Besides the ‘Ring, the other driving heaven for petrolheads is the infamous AutoBahn. The “Mecca” of speed is the only highway in the world where no speed limit is imposed. However, there will be bad news as from 2016 onwards, everyone will need to buy a permit in order to drive on the AutoBahn, as there will be a new toll system targeting vehicles with foreign registration numbers.

Foreign motorists will have to purchase a special badge that costs €10 (RM43) for 10 days in order to drive at the AutoBahn. There also an annual pass that costs €100 (RM433). The Germans need to pay for that badge too, but will be offset with a reduction in vehicle tax. However, motorcycles have been exempted for now, so foreign and local bikers can ride (for speed) on the AutoBahn without charges imposed.

Still, paying RM43 to access the fastest highway in the world for ten days doesn’t sound a lot, compared to the toll charges in our country. Did our minister infamously mention that our toll rates are among the cheapest in the world?
