Volvo Cars Malaysia (VCM) has just unveiled the facelifted XC60 at Glenmarie today. The new XC60 marks the debut of the all-new Drive-E Powertrain for Volvo cars in Malaysia – a modular engine platform that set to be part of the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). Introduced in the form of the petrol T5 trim for RM288,888, with the T6 set to arrive in early 2015.

As mentioned earlier, the refreshed XC60 gets a brand new powertrain, with a 4-cylinder 2.0-litre Drive-E engine that produces 245bhp with 550Nm of torque. Also introduced is a new eight speed automatic gearbox from Geartronic with paddle shifters. The XC60’s new powertrain leads to better fuel economy and lower C02 emissions. The new XC60 clocks 0-100km/h at 7.2secs. Volvo believes that by introducing smaller, more intelligent engines will give better driveability compared to engines with more cylinders. The XC60’s handling has been improved with Corner Traction Control by Torque Vectoring, where it prevents understeer and enables the car to steer into corners dynamically and safely.

On the inside, it receives a redesigned interior with added luxurious interior refinements. More notable changes are on the driver’s side where the steering and the meter clusters are shared together with the V40, making the XC60 more appealing to the young. Changes on the exterior includes a new hood shape and chrome bar grille; whereas on the back, tailpipes are integrated with the diffuser.

Safety has always been synonymous with Volvo, hence the XC60 here gets upgraded versions of City Safety, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Closing Vehicle Warning (CWW), Cross Traffic Alert and Whiplash Protection System. The enhanced City Safety system now gets active automatic brakes at speeds up to 50km/h, while the BLIS is now a radar-based system that monitors and alerts the driver on rapidly approaching vehicles up to 70 metres behind the XC60.

The locally assembled XC60 is priced at a competitive RM288,888 (w/o insurance) and comes with VCM’s extended coverage plan of 5+5+5, which includes warranty, scheduled free maintenance and roadside assistance (Volvo on Call). It is now available at all authorised Volvo dealers at Federal Auto Cars, Clear Marque and Angkatan Hebat. VCM targets a monthly sales target of 30 units per month for the XC60, hoping to maintain their momentum in Malaysia’s premium car segment.
