Honda S2000 to make a return?

It has been five years since the final unit of the iconic Honda S2000 rolled out from Honda’s plant. Word has it that the new S2000 could be making a return, and it will be among a lineup of new Honda sportscars that includes the entry-level Honda S660 and the range-topping new NSX supercar (pics below). As you can see, all these three new sportscars are mid-engined hybrids.

The new S2000 is also reported to be a coupe unlike its predecessor, but will have a similar design language with the new S660 and the new NSX. Under the hood lies the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the next generation Honda Civic Type-R, but with an added hybrid assistance to improve fuel economy. We may have to forget drifting the S2000 though, as this new one will be all-wheel driven.

It was just two years ago when the only sports car in Honda’s lineup was the CR-Z hybrid. Now with the new turbocharged Civic Type-R and these three new mid-engine hybrid sports cars in the pipeline, Honda looks set on getting back the groove they once had twenty years ago!
