BMW X5 officially launched in Malaysia; the boss is back!

With more than 1.3 million units sold since the launch of the first generation, BMW is entering a new chapter in its successful history with the third-generation X5 Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV). And in case you were wondering about that headline, that’s what the good folks at BMW Malaysia call the X5, “The Boss”.

Made available in two variants in the form of the BMW X5 xDrive35i and BMW X5 xDrive30d, the all-new BMW X5 establishes a new benchmark in premium sports activity driving and further expands BMW’s leading role in the premium automotive industry with improved performance and efficiency along with enhanced handling, comfort, versatility and luxurious ambience.

Aesthetically, the all-new BMW X5 carries the characteristic X heritage of muscular design cues combined with an even more expressive front and lively lines along the sides and rear. Internally, the premium SAV delivers luxurious ambience and versatility with noticeably enhanced comfort, new design schemes for its cabin, as well as a wealth of pioneering BMW ConnectedDrive features. Coupled with distinctive aerodynamic measures and additional new BMW EfficientDynamics features, the all-new BMW X5 is not only faster than ever, but is also more efficient with fuel consumption which is now reduced by up to 16%.

At the heart of the all-new BMW X5 is the multi-award winning BMW TwinPower Turbo technology which teams up with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. Coupled with additional BMW EfficientDynamics features, the all-new BMW X5 now achieves an even more exceptional acceleration and significantly reduced fuel consumption and emissions.

The all-new BMW X5 xDrive35i is equipped with a 6-cylinder in-line petrol engine which delivers a maximum output of 306hp with torque peaking at 400Nm. This enables the engine to achieve an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds with a recorded fuel savings of  8.5 litres per 100km and C02 emissions of a mere 199 grams per 100 kilometre. Compared to its predecessor, the all-new BMW X5 xDrive35i now accelerates 0.3 seconds faster with a 16% decrease in fuel consumption.

The all-new BMW X5 xDrive30d, meanwhile, is powered by a 6-cylinder diesel engine which boasts 258 hp with a peak torque of 560Nm; enabling the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds with a reduced carbon emission of 164g/km and a lowered fuel consumption of 6.2 litre per 100 kilometre.

For an exceptional fuel-efficient style of driving, the new premium SAV from BMW offers drivers the ability to modify the overall character of the car for more fuel savings with the ECO PRO mode which can be activated through the Driving Experience Control button featured as standard. The unique ECO PRO mode allow drivers to sail in neutral with the engine decoupled from the drivetrain at speeds between 50 and 160km/h when the driver takes the foot off the accelerator pedal. Also available as standard and which joins forces with the Navigation System Professional is the Route-Ahead Assistant which uses data from the navigation system to recognize bends, city, town and village boundaries, as well as speed restrictions along the route to provide drivers with tips on reducing the throttle in advance.

Furthering the well-balanced combination of high-level driving dynamics and ride comfort in the all-new BMW X5 is the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system which now responds with even greater sensitivy. Its unmatched ability to perform fast and precise adjustments of the torque split effectively prevents understeer, thus ensuring not only top-tier driving dynamics but also the best possible traction on slippery surfaces or dirt roads. Meanwhile, the effects of the new electromechanical power steering which comes as standard also contributes to the remarkably effortless and agile driving experience of the all-new BMW X5.

Also making its debut for the first time ever is the Adaptive Comfort Suspension Package exclusively made available for the BMW xDrive35i. The adaptive suspension package matches the driving style and individual preferences of the driver as closely as possible to provide an unparrelled combination of high-level driving dynamics and ride comfort. Features include the Dynamic Damper Control function and a self-levelling pneumatic rear suspension for supreme comfort.

In terms of creature comforts, the BMW X5 xDrive35i is fitted with two additional seats attached to the third seat row which transforms the car into a seven-seater. By simply tilting the outer seats in the second row towards the front, passengers can easily access the two additional seats in the back. Meanwhile, an increase in luggage compartment volume is achievable by folding down the third seat row into the luggage compartment floor.

Colours available for the all-new BMW X5 includes Alpine White, Space Grey, and Black Sapphire while Sparkling Brown and Sophisto Grey are an exclusive colour addition for the All-New BMW X5 xDrive35i while Glacier Silver is an exclusive colour available for the All-New BMW X5 xDrive30d.
