Peugeot returns to Dakar in 2015

Peugeot is set to make a comeback to the prestigious Dakar Rally next year, more than two decades after it enjoyed a good spell in the Dakar Rally from 1987 to 1990. The French car manufacturer is also set to use the 2008 crossover. This will be a collaborative effort between Peugeot, Red Bull and Total, the same effort that lead to success at the Pikes Peak by Sebastian Loeb and the 208 T16 last year.

With that, Peugeot recruited some of Dakar’s best talents, including 2010 Dakar rally winner, Carlos Sainz and two-time Dakar bike winner, Cyril Despres. The collaborative efforts of Peugeot Sports, Red Bull and Total are set to put a stop on the current strongest team in the Dakar in the car category, the MINI ALL4 Racing; which is sponsored by Red Bull’s arch rival, Monster Energy.

Sainz said: “In motorsport, you can never take anything for granted. The level of competition on the Dakar today is very high and it’s an event that really isn’t easy to win. We won’t have much time before our first attempt, either, but I feel confident because the team is clearly extremely motivated and we will work hard to try to win.”
