WTCC: Honda launches new generation WTCC Civic

Just right after Honda unveiled the new Civic Type R Concept, Honda has also revealed the car for their 2014 World Touring Car Championship challenge. The Civic, sporting a striking new livery with colors from title sponsor, Castrol, is the first model to be unveiled based on the series’ new regulations.

The new regulations will see the new Civic with a more spectacular design, larger wheels, exaggerated wings and chunkier bodywork. Engine output has also been increased to 380 HP. The JAS-run factory team retained the services of, their drivers from last year with experienced racers Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro staying on board for a second season. Privateers Zengo Motorsport and Proteam will also enter a pair of Civics in 2014 for Norbert Michelisz and Mehdi Bennani respectively.

“We are delighted to extend our partnership with Honda, after a first successful season in the FIA WTCC with Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro,” said Castrol’s Donald Smith. “For us, there is something special about the coming together of two brands with such rich and successful racing pedigrees. The new livery looks absolutely fantastic, with Castrol and Honda once again sharing the red and the white!

Newcomers Citroen will unveil their machine soon, followed by Lada in the coming weeks. The first race of the WTCC begins in Morocco on 13 April 2014.
