Peugeot has officially unveiled the all-new 108 which for the first time will be offered in two body styles – the 108 hatchback and the convertible (called 108 Top!)

Measuring 3.47m long and 1.62m wide, the 108 has compact dimensions that look a lot more refined and upmarket thanks to the many styling cues taken from the 308. The fabric roof of the convertible is 76cm long and 80cm wide and the French company has equipped the convertible variant with an aero-acoustic deflector which automatically deploys in order to reduce cabin turbulence.

Inside, everything is within the driver’s easy reach.  This includes the striking seven-inch touch-screen, cruise control with speed limiter, the starter button coupled with the Peugeot Open and Go system, plus the automatic air conditioning.

Powering the all-new 108 are frugal three-cylinder engines starting out with a 1.0-litre e-VTi delivering 68bhp to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The same engine can be had with a stop/start system to cut down CO2 emissions and also with an automatic transmission. There’s also a larger 1.2-litre PureTech VTi outputting 82bhp and mated to a five-speed manual.

There are two tyre sizes available, 165/65 R14 or 165/60 R15, with ultra-low rolling resistance. They are continuously monitored by the Indirect Tyre Under-Inflation Detection system. All models have Hill Start Assist. The braking system includes ABS, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Emergency Collision Braking System and switchable ESP as standard. Stopping power comes from 247mm ventilated discs at the front and 200mm drums at the rear.

The Peugeot 108 will be premiered at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show next month and is slated to go on sale in the UK on July 1st.
