Edaran Tan Chong Malaysia (ETCM) last week announced the Grand Prize winner of the ‘Pimp My ALMERA’ design contest at a special prize-giving ceremony held at the 13th Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS’13). The Nissan ALMERA, which has been ETCM’s best-selling model this year, served up as a ‘canvas’ for design students from top schools in the Klang valley to express their creative flair and imagination during the competition.
Mr. Tan Keng Meng, Director of Marketing & Product Planning, Edaran Tan Chong Motor said, “We at ETCM are extremely proud to have had the participation of the top design institutions and colleges. I can honestly say that we were impressed with the creativity and talent shown by many of the participants, so it was tough narrowing the entries to the final three selected.”
During the first phase, participants from Dasein Academy of Art, Saito College and IACT College all produced submissions reflecting their own particular artistic vision. From these, with the input and assistance of their instructors, a final entry was shortlisted to represent each school.
These 3 finalists received RM5,000 each, and moved on to the second phase of the contest where their entries were then displayed on Nissan’s Facebook page, allowing the public to cast their vote for the final selection process. The public voting period lasted from 13th September to 12th October 2013 with each finalist vying for their design to be chosen as the ultimate winner.
When voting ended, Ms. Chuang Xin Yi from IACT College emerged as the winner, beating the other finalists with her ‘retro-poppin’ inspired design concept to clinch the Grand Prize of RM20,000. In addition to the prize money, her winning design was transferred to a real-life Nissan ALMERA which was unveiled at the ceremony and will be on display at the Nissan booth throughout KLIMS’13.
Ms. Chuang was thrilled with her win and made a brief presentation to those gathered, explaining the concept and design elements in her artwork, following the prize-giving ceremony. The other 2 finalists were Ho Shu Qi from Dasein Academy of Art, and Lee Tieng Chiew from Saito College, who each received RM5,000 for their efforts.
The Nissan ALMERA is currently ETCM’s best-selling model and is dynamic, youthful, versatile and fun. Further information regarding the Nissan ALMERA and other Nissan models in Malaysia can be found at www.nissan.com.my
