Ford Fiesta officially launched with a bang!

It was like a scene straight out of a movie; thousands of Taylor’s University kids surrounding a stage that was being brought to life with the help of Chester See and Hitz.FM, and at the centre of it all, the brand new Ford Fiesta…

It was a fitting venue, seeing as how the new Fiesta is indeed targeted at the ‘young and upcoming’ generation of buyers, many of whom could be seen taking ‘selfies’ of themselves with the car, no doubt only to be uploaded seconds later onto the numerous social media sites currently available these days. The old adage “15 seconds of fame” has taken on a whole new meaning and time-continuum thanks to this.

Not that the Fiesta needs any such promotion, as inherently it’s a pretty good car. Powered by a 1.5-litre Ti-VCT DOHC 16V engine that churns out 112Ps and 140Nm, the new Fiesta comes in two body variants, a hot-hatch (Fiesta Sport) and a sedan (Fiesta Titanium). The engine is mated to a 6-speed auto transmission with ‘Powershift’ that allows manual gear selection via a button on the gear stalk.

It’s fully loaded with all the active and passive systems expected from a Ford, as well as SYNC, which allows hands-free access to your phone, including calls, sms’s, voice mails, as well as the in-car entertainment system. Simply call up a type of genre you wish to listen to, and SYNC takes care of the rest, pretty cool isn’t it? We thought so.

Keyless entry and push-button start/stop are also on the cool list of gadgets, as well as Smart Regenerative Braking which converts friction-losses into additional energy to be stored in the battery. Priced at a reasonable (for all the kit you’re getting) RM84,988 for the sedan and RM86,988 for the hatch (OTR with insurance), the new Fiesta is now available for test-drives and booking at a Ford showroom near you.
