Over the weekend, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the facelifted A-Class at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. A timely update, considering that the A-Class was first launched in 2012. The facelift now brings a slightly revised exterior, new engines and a revised interior with new trim materials.
Outside, the front bumper has received a sharper revision, drawing closer to the original Concept A-CLASS from 2011. The front grille now comes standard with a diamond design, and can be optioned with Mercedes-Benz’s LED High Performance headlamps. Moving to the rear, the rear light cluster also gets a new design, and the exhaust tailpipes are now integrated into the rear bumper.
Moving to the interior, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class facelift now receives the same tubular instrument cluster from the CLA-Class and GLA-Class, with new switches and an optional 8-inch infotainment system. The new infotainment system is compatible with Apple® CarPlay® and MirrorLink®. Dashboard and trim materials have also been upgraded with new colours, together with a new seat design.
Also new to the facelifted Mercedes-Benz A-Class is the range of engines. From the bottom is the new A160, which is the entry-level model with a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with 102 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque. Diesel variants also get a new nomenclature, dropped the old “CDI”, now replaced with a simpler “d”. Previously, the A200 CDI will now be called the A200 d.
Apart from that, models equipped with the 7G-Tronic transmission will be getting the DYNAMIC SELECT system as standard. The DYNAMIC SELECT system allows the driver to alter the engine, transmission, suspension, steering and air conditioning at a touch of a button. When optioned with the adaptive suspension, the driver can adjust the vehicle’s damping via the DYNAMIC SELECT modes. A total of four driving modes will be available, namely Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Individual. The Eco mode has been revamped to provide even more savings.
Customers from Europe can order the facelifted Mercedes-Benz A-Class from 3rd July onwards, and can expect to receive their cars by September 2015.
