Yuji Nakamine, Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer of Mazda Motor Corporation said, “Since the first generation was launched back in 1996, a total 2.5 million units of the Mazda2 have been sold globally until now.  And, so many prestigious auto awards including the World Car of the Year 2008, were given to this model because of its stylish design, sporty driving and excellent fuel economy.  In short, the model has come to represent the Mazda brand in the global market.”

Powering the new Mazda 2 is the SKYACTIV-G engine, with a capacity of 1,496 cc. This high compression engine features direct injection and is capable of 114 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, with the peak torque of 148 Nm coming in at 4,000 rpm. Power from the SKYACTIV-G engine is then channeled to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Up front, the halogen headlights have daytime running lights built in, and front foglights are standard for both models. Besides that, both variants will get 16-inch rims as standard. Unlike its predecessor, the new Mazda 2 sports front and rear disc brakes, unlike the disc/drum combination found on many other competitors.

Moving onto the interior, the big MZD CONNECT with a 7″ LCD display takes centre stage, and just below that are the aircon vents and regular knob-type aircon controls. Despite that, automatic air conditioning is a standard fitment to the new Mazda 2. GPS navigation is a RM1,200 cost option. The Mazda 2 has leather seats, leather wrapped steering as well as leather upholstery. Unlike its competitors, the Mazda 2 sports a drive selection switch for drivers to toggle between Sports mode and Normal mode. Also new to the segment is the addition of the Active Driving Display, which is a heads-up display which shows real time driving data for the driver. Otherequipment includes the reverse camera, smart keyless entry with push start button and the i-Stop Idling Stop System.
