The BMW 2-Series Active Tourer is BMW’s first front-engine, front-wheel-drive vehicle, and is aimed squarely at the Mercedes-Benz B-Class. At the 2015 Bangkok International Motor Show, BMW took out the 218i Active Tourer for the Thai media to check out.

Under the hood of the 218i Active Tourer lies a 1.5-litre 3 cylinder twin scroll turbo engine with 134 horsepower at 4,500 – 6,000 rpm and 220 Nm of torque from just 1,250 rpm. The engine is mated to a conventional 6-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Performance wise, the 1.5-litre model sprints from standstill to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, and top speed is rated at 205 km/h.

The Thai-spec BMW 218i Active Tourer also has Brake Energy Regeneration, which we expect will be making an appearance on our local variant as well. The Brake Energy Regeneration works by generating electricity whenever the driver brakes or takes their foot off the accelerator, and channeling the electricity to charge the car battery. This reduces load on the alternator and results with an improved fuel efficiency.

Being an MPV, the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer is practical, as it has 468-litres of boot space, and a grand total of 1,510-litres with the seats folded down. The new BMW MPV can seat three adults behind and has ample head room.
