Auf Wiedersehen! MINI officially kills-off Coupe and Roadster, no replacement planned

Mini-Roadster-and-Coupe-3

As the saying “not everyone’s cup of tea” goes, the MINI Coupe and Roadster is just the car that isn’t quite everyone’s (or anyone’s) taste. They look quirky, with a questionable roof-line. Thus, in an apparent admission of defeat, MINI has announced that the pair will cease production at the Oxford plant.

Launched back in 2011 at Nurburgring, it made its maiden debut at the 24-hour race on the Nordschleife, before making an official debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Back then, the press praised both model’s handling dynamics, but the lack of practicality and lukewarm sales was the final nail on the coffin.

MINI plans to streamline production and free up production capacity for both the 3- and 5-door Hatch models. Fans could also be waiting for the much-touted Superleggera concept to turn into reality.
