BIKES: Yamaha recalls bikes due to gear issues

Yamaha-MT09

Yamaha is recalling several bikes, namely the MT-09 (FZ-09), FJ-09, XJ6R (FZ6R), Super Tenere (both variants) and the YZF-R6. The affected units are the 2015 models. The fault may result in owners finding difficulty in selecting neutral, some even reported that they were unable to change from any gears into neutral after coming to a halt at traffic lights.

Yamaha-Recall

A forum user of Lowyat.NET, nemocacat has shared about this as well, in the first post he said, “My motorcycle has been confirmed for a recall. Yamaha has given a list that my batch has to have the transmission shaft changed. No wonder it is so hard to get the bike into free gear (neutral).”

The second reply, he replied to another forum asking what did he meant that it was hard to get it into neutral, “Dropping from 6th to Neutral after stopping at a traffic light is not easy. Sometimes, gear indicator does not show the gear you’re in when you’re dropping it. Yamaha have said that it will take about two hours to change.”

Owners of the motorcycles mentioned can check with Hong Leong Yamaha if they are affected. Yamaha will also contact owners of affected machines via mail.
